"After being jeered for seven rounds [both] were thrown out of the ring" by Brasill, who "ordered the purses withheld." (Slattery reportedly is recognized "in New York state as light-heavyweight champion.") Seattle Daily Times According to sportswriter Jack Egan of the Boston Globe, the crowd got onto the boxers from the first, but they did not deserve this treatment. Latzo was furious at being cheated out of his purse. He said "I've been 11 years in this business and I never crooked one yet." Slattery won the first 4 rounds with long range boxing. The shorter Latzo swarmed inside and won the next 3. Slattery and Latzo both retained lawyers to get their pay but the results of their effort is not known. It looked like a put-up job to save the Crosscup-Pichon American Legion Post (who put on the program) the expense of paying the main event fighters.
