Jimmy Young 235 lbs beat Wendell Bailey 203 lbs by TKO at 2:37 in round 3 of 10
- Date: 1979-06-22
- Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
- Referee: Billy Graham
"A very fat Jimmy Young, 235, spotted young Wendell Bailey, the first two rounds then exploded into a puncher in the 3rd to stop Bailey with a series of left-right combinations to the head. This triumph kept Young in the heavyweight picture, but Jimmy, once a smooth moving boxer, showed little of the speed or form that carried him to the top a few short years ago. Young did show punching power that he never displayed before, but what good that will do him against a top opponent remains to be seen." -BOXING ILLUSTRATED, October 1979 issue
- This bout was fought on the undercard to the Larry Holmes v Mike Weaver heavyweight title fight in MSG.
