- Date: 1960-10-04
- Location: Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, Texas, USA
- Brown was 34 years old and Torres was 19
- The UPI reported that the only thing preventing Torres, the #5 contender for the lightweight title, from engaging Brown with the title on the line was his age. It was stated that NBA states, including Texas, specify that a challenger must be 21 years of age. Thus, it was a non-title bout.
"Joe Brown, lightweight boxing champion of the world, knocked out 6th ranked Raymundo (Battling) Torres of Reynosa, Mexico, in the 4th round of a 10 round non-title fight Tuesday night. Brown, 137, knocked Torres out with a short right cross with 2:24 gone in the 4th. He dropped Torres for an eight count with a similar punch in the 1st round, but was slightly stunned by Torres, 139, in the 3rd round." -Associated Press
