"John L. Davis, top-flight coast lightweight from Oakland, Calif., won a unanimous but unpopular 10 round decision from Chicago's Joe Brown last night at Legion Stadium. Davis was a heavy pre-fight favorite and although he was in command throughout, the lightly regarded Brown managed to put up a fine battle. Only a few of Brown's punches seemed to bother Davis. But in the 7th and 9th rounds Brown used his neat right uppercuts to the chin to take the heats." -United Press
