"Percy Hayles, Jamaican world ranking lightweight, made another impressive step toward a shot at the world title in his fight with former world champion Joe Brown Saturday night at the National Stadium. Hayles earned a unanimous decision in the classy 10 round bout. A crowd of 15,000 saw the ringwise 38 year old Brown pull out all the craft of his long and colorful career in a bid for a comeback, against the young and determined Hayles. But at the end of the interesting fight there was never a doubt as to which man won. Hayles's jabs, hooks and right crosses were working beautifully, and time and again he landed solidly.
