  • "Percy Hayles, Jamaican world ranking lightweight, made another impressive step toward a shot at the world title in his fight with former world champion Joe Brown Saturday night at the National Stadium. Hayles earned a unanimous decision in the classy 10 round bout. A crowd of 15,000 saw the ringwise 38 year old Brown pull out all the craft of his long and colorful career in a bid for a comeback, against the young and determined Hayles. But at the end of the interesting fight there was never a doubt as to which man won. Hayles's jabs, hooks and right crosses were working beautifully, and time and again he landed solidly. However, Brown did not miss an opportunity to return fire with crisp punches at short range." -The Gleaner

    • Hayles dropped Brown with a right hand in the 8th round. Brown was up immediately and took the mandatory 8 count, while saying he had slipped.
