Dupas appeared to have been counted out following the first knockdown in the eighth round, but Referee Jimmy Webb stated that he didn't toll 10 because Brown had failed to go to a neutral corner. Dupas was knocked down two more times in the round. After he rose unsteady from the third knockdown, Webb stopped the bout.
