- Frazier knocked Machen through the ropes with a left hook in the first round and kept him pinned to the ropes for most of the fight. Machen's best moment came when he staggered Frazier with a left hook in the eighth round. Frazier came back in the ninth round and had Machen virtually out on his feet, but the game veteran managed to hang on until the bell. Machen was taking punishment on the ropes when referee Tommy Hart stopped the bout 22 seconds into the tenth round.
- Machen compared Frazier to Rocky Marciano after the fight. "He's a tough kid and he should go a long way," Machen said. "He's awful strong and I couldn't keep him off."
