Gaeton was found dead on March 14, 1939 in Kingsland, Georgia with a bullet wound through his head. It was believed that Gaeton died around March 7th, as papers were found on his body from his March 6th stay at a hotel. Gaeton had travelled to Florida, on behalf of his employer Universal Credit Company, attempting to repossess an automobile. Gaeton was a judge of amateur and professional boxing after his fight career ended.
