Joe Gans beat David Armstrong by TKO in round 3 of 6

    Joe Gans and David Armstrong, both colored, were to have sparred six rounds in the amphitheatre at the Monumental Theatre last night. At the end of the third round Armstrong quit. Gans clearly outpointed Armstrong and landed when and where he liked.

    A battle royal between six colored men followed. The contestants were: Paul Johnson, known as "Kangaroo;" Henry Mason, known as "Pocahontas;" Joe Rose, known as "Hungry Joe;" George Washington and Thomas Harden. At the end of seven rounds Johnson was declated the winner. Washington quit in the first round and Hardon was taken out in the fourth round by the referee, Jack Daly, owing to his continually falling down to avoid punishment.
