Gans and Sweigart Draw.
Joseph Gans, colored, and Frederick Sweigart last night sparred ten pretty rounds to a draw in the Monumental tournament room. Gans had far the better reach, but Sweigart held his title as a great taker of punishment and a game fighter. Every round was fast and each was clever, with hard hitting at long reach, with little clinching.
This is the fifth bout the two have had. Each has won twice.
Chris Johnson, middle-weight, and a man who was introduced as Mr. Painter, started to spar ten rounds. Mr Painter was tapped where and when Johnson pleased. The crowd laughed, and in two minutes he was ordered out of the ring, it being seen he was no boxer.
