Joe Gans beat Samuel Young by KO in round 3

  • Date: 1895-02-07
  • Location: Monumental Theatre, Baltimore, Maryland, USA
  • Gans Again a Victor.

There was a small attendance at the Monumental tournament room last night to see Joseph Gans, the colored light-weight, whip Sam Young, a much bigger colored man. It was observable after a minute's sparring that Young was no match for his opponent and the bout lasted less than three rounds.

After two and a-half minutes of sparring in the second round Young wanted to quit and the gong sounded time. He was given a good rest and he started the third round with a rush.

Gans met the rush cleverly and gave four well-aimed and convincing blows. The last floored Young, who stayed down until he heard the referee count ten seconds.
