Joe Hill was a professional cook by trade. August 15, 1914 Tacoma Daily News. He was the brother of fellow boxer Frank Hill.
As of December 14, 1916, Hill reportedly had engaged in 100 bouts, never been knocked out, and had been dropped to his knees only once. [1]
Per the May 22, 1917 Tacoma Tribune, Hill had joined the U.S. Medical Corps, along with fellow Tacoma boxer Ole Anderson, during World War I. He would get the nickname "Soldier Joe."
