Career Review
Joe "Sugarfoot" Hooks was one of three fighting brothers who headlined fightcards in South Florida during the 1970s.
Hooks was born in South Carolina but raised in Philadelphia, where he became interested in boxing. In 1968, he won the Philadelphia Golden Gloves Gloves. From 1966-1969, Hooks compiled an amateur boxing record of 51-11.
A boxer-slugger, Hooks turned pro in 1969. However, he was overmatched early in his career; losing to Don Lutz and Tino Fuertes. In 1970, Hooks scored the biggest win of his career by defeating propect Nat King.
Joe Hooks continued to fight on for a number of years, but never got beyond the club-level.
