Jeannette Wins On Points - "New York Times" - March 22, 1914
"In a 15 round bout tonight, Joe Jeanette, the American heavyweight, won the decision over Georges Carpentier, the French champion, on points. Jeanette carried the fight to his opponent throughout and piled up a good lead in the opening rounds, which were marked by almost continuous infighting. Carpentier met Jeanette's rushes cleverly and put up a splendid defensive fight. He had a shade the better of several rounds, but could not overcome the lead of the American, whose heavy punches in the fierce rallies at close quarters staggered the French champion more than once. Jeanette outweighed the Frenchman and was the more aggressive. An unusually large crowd cheered the efforts of Carpentier, who is the idol of the French sporting public, and great disappointment was shown over his defeat." -Nevada State Journal
