Joe John served as a sparring partner of Jim Driscoll, with whom he performed in numerous exhibitions. Despite suffering from rheumatism, John won the Lightweight title of Wales in a career that lasted from 1907 to 1919. He is not to be confused with Joe Johns of Llanelly who was active around the same time.
