Joe Kieffer competed at the 1928 Olympics, losing a decision in the 1st round of the flyweight competion to Alfredo Gaona. To distinguish him from another Esch-sur-Alzette boxer named Kieffer, a welterweight, Joe Kieffer was sometimes reported as Kieffer II. Kieffer I would not fight professionally.
