Joe Louis 192 lbs beat Lee Ramage 183 lbs by TKO at 2:51 in round 8 of 10

  • Date: 1934-12-14
  • Location: Chicago Stadium, Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • Referee: Phil Collins

"Joe Louis, 194 1/2, of Detroit, scored a TKO over Lee Ramage, 183 1/2, San Diego, Calif., after 2:15 of fighting in the 8th round of their scheduled 10-round bout last night at Chicago Stadium. It was Louis' 12th straight victory since he turned pro last July 4th, and his 10th knockout in 12 pro bouts. Ramage was ahead on points until just before the end. He outboxed Louis in the early rounds and piled up points with a left jab which he flicked continually into the Negro's face. Ramage's inability to keep off the ropes started his downfall. Louis caught him against the ropes in the 8th round and whipped over a right cross which dropped Ramage for a count of nine. Louis then ripped two punches to the head, flooring Ramage again for nine. When the Californian pulled himself off the canvas a second time Louis banged another right to his chin and he slumped to the floor, badly beaten. He gamely tried to get up again, and just did manage to mount his feet, but he was helpless and referee Phil Collins grabbed Louis and pinned his arms to his sides, awarding him the bout on a TKO." -United Press
