"Joe Medrano, 126, Los Angeles, was awarded an 8th round knockout victory last night over previously unbeaten Jorge Rodriguez of Guadalajara, in their scheduled 10 round main event at the Olympic Auditorium. Rodriguez' left eye was completely closed midway through the 8th round and referee Larry Rozadilla stopped the fight at 1:30 of the round and awarded Medrano the victory. There was only one knockdown in the bruisng fight. That came in the 8th and Rodriguez protested he slipped instead of being hit but took the mandatory 8-count." -United Press International
