"Joe 'King' Roman of Puerto Rico scored an upset unanimous decision victory over European heavyweight champion Jose Urtain of Spain Monday night. Roman, who weighed in at 193, was a definite underdog but his victory was clearcut as he completely dominated the bout in the closing stages against the Spaniard, who weighed 196. The turning point came in the 4th round when Roman opened a cut over Urtain's left eye. There were no knockdowns in the bout which was held at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium." -United Press International
