Joey Archer 160 lbs lost to Don Fullmer 160 lbs by SD in round 12 of 12

"Don Fullmer, 5th ranking middleweight according to the WBA, retained his regional crown with a split 12 round decision over the 2nd ranked Joey Archer at Boston Garden. Fullmer pressed the fight most of the way, trying his hardest to counterpunch or otherwise break through the guard of the elusive Archer. But Archer kept his quick left jab in Fullmer's face throughout the fight and kept Fullmer off balance and unable to land solid blows. Archer finally slowed a bit and Fullmer was able to tag him, cutting Archer three times. Fullmer also was cut under the right eye, a wound that required five stitches." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 117-115 Archer

  • "We were taken. One judge gave my brother only one round. It was impossible to give just one round to my brother in that fight." -Jimmy Archer, Joey's brother and manager
