In 1944 Joey D'Amato made the final of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions in the featherweight division and won the National AAU in the lightweight division.

Joe D'Amato is a cousin of Lenny Mancini and boxes with a rhythmic, unruffled style, and packs a good right hand punch. He served two years in the Coast Guard.
