- Date: 1957-05-14
- Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
- Referee: Frankie Carter
"Joey Giambra continued his climb in the middleweight ranks last night by stopping Chico Vejar in the 7th round. The only round in which Vejar appeared ahead was the 2nd as he followed his pattern of hooking or jabbing and then moving inside to tie up his favored opponent. In the 7th round, Giambra slammed Chico into the ropes and was scoring with solid lefts and rights when referee Frankie Carter decided Vejar had taken enough. It marked only the third time in 84 bouts that Chico had been stopped." -Associated Press

- "He's ready and it's not a question of working up. But let's face it, Robinson and Basilio are next." -Mike Scanlon, Giambra's manager, resolving himself to having to wait after the announcement of Ray Robinson defending against welterweight champ Carmen Basilio.
