"Buffalo's middleweight hopeful, Joey Giambra, got up off the deck to win a unanimous decision tonight over Tuzo (Kid) Portuguez of Costa Rica, but the result was roundly booed by a sweltering crowd of about 4800. Giambra was floored by a left hook in the 8th round. He finished the fight with his right eye completely closed and his nose dripping blood. Giambra's margin of victory was the 9th round, which was taken away from Portuguez for hitting on the break after five separate warnings in the one round." -Associated Press
