"Joey Giardello knocked out Del Flanagan with a barrage of punches that decked the St. Paul fighter for the full count at 2:50 of the 1st round in their scheduled 10-round middleweight bout Tuesday night. Philadelphia's Giardello wasted no time in pulverizing Flanagan with repeated left hands to the mid-section. Before Flanagan was knocked out, he was on the defensive continually. Flanagan, the hometown favorite, never regained consciousness until the count of nine. He raised up feebly at the count of ten, but the referee stepped in as his handlers rushed into the ring. Flanagan tried to fight off his handlers and resume the battle. But it was all over for the St. Paul native." -United Press International
