Joey Giardello 173 lbs lost to Jack Rodgers 169 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Joey Giardello is down and almost out at 37. The former world middleweight champion, refusing to admit he may be finished, says his defeat at the hands of up-and-coming Jack Rogers of Uniontown, Pa., Monday night was robbery. There were no knockdowns, but Rogers had Giardello on the ropes for about 15 seconds of the 3rd round. He also opened a cut over Giardello's left eye in the 1st round, but it never bothered the crafty veteran. Instead, Giardello seemed to be pacing himself in hopes of a late flurry which never came. As it turned out, he thought he was ahead all the way." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 47-44 Rogers
  • Attendance - 3,607
  • Gate - $15,694
