"Joey Giardello, a Philadelphia middleweight who wants a crack at champion Dick Tiger, downed Johnny Morris of Pittsburgh Monday night in Baltimore's new Civic Center on a close split decision. In a slow-moving 10 round battle that kept some 6,113 fans booing and clapping for more action, the pair shuffled around the ring with few good punches landed on either side. Morris displayed very little offensive style, spending most of the time backing away from Giardello and trading punches only when the opportunity presented itself.
