"Joey Maxim, sharp-shooting Cleveland heavyweight, won a shade decision over the vicious punching Bob Foxworth, East St. Louis, Il., in their 10 round bout last night in Chicago stadium. Foxworth, winner of 13 out of his previous 16 bouts by KO, started out like a whirlwind, scoring effectively with jarring rights to the head. He began to tire midway in the bout, however, and the clever Maxim moved ahead on his boxing skill and generalship. Maxim hooked and poked long lefts into Foxworth's face in an attempt to keep him at a safe distance. There were no knockdowns." -Associated Press
