Joey Speigal, a welterweight, was the older brother of the better known Tommy Speigal, a lightweight. Joey was the 1930 National amateur lightweight champion. He had 152 amateur fights, losing only twice. Joey won the West Virginia State Welterweight Title in October of 1933 defeating Louis Cook by decision in ten rds.

It should be noted that Speigal's name is often misspelled as "Spiegel" or "Speigel."
