    • Completely unknown before this fight, Higgins was the first amateur opponent who dared to come forward and challenge heavyweight champion Sullivan on Sullivan's nationwide exhibition tour. He proved an easy opponent for Sullivan, who carried him for two rounds before knocking him out. Higgins was said to have been unconscious for a full twenty minutes after the fight.
