Seyler was knocked down four times in the bout, with Sullivan taking a knee for a two-count in the 2nd round. In the fateful seventh, Sullivan landed a left to Seyler's midriff that set up the final knockdown. After Seyler arose unsteady, with his back to the referee, the bout was halted. Seyler stated after the bout that, "He caught me in the rib", and added that the bone was pushed out of position and impaired his breathing.
