Precheck, a former Stadium High School athlete, won the University of Washington (Seattle) heavyweight boxing title March 7, 1947 with a TKO-2 over Dmitri Tadich, defending champion. Both had been tackles on the Husky football team.
Tadich previously had lost only one fight in some 60 matches. He had decisioned the defending national intercollegiate winner while in officer training at Fort Benning, GA, several years earlier. He had also held the heavyweight title in the China-Burma-India theater during World War II.
