John Ruiz 227 lbs beat Adnan Serin 215 lbs by TKO at 1:34 in round 7 of 10

In a WBA heavyweight eliminator bout which made Ruiz the mandatory opponent for the winner of the Haye-Valuev WBA heavyweight title fight, ex-WBA champion Ruiz, 44-8-1, 30 kos, won the first four rounds scoring at will with his jab on opponent Adnan Serin, 19-11, 7 kos. However, in round five, Ruiz got hit and was bleeding from a bad cut near the left eye the rest of the bout. In round six, Ruiz came back with the jab. In round seven, Ruiz soon was hitting a defenseless Serin at will on the ropes, and Serin got a standing eight count. When Ruiz then continued his assault without reply, Serin's corner threw in the towel, ending the bout. While Ruiz dominated this bout, it appeared he would have liked to 'get his opponent out of there' much sooner, but Serin refused to fall, and caused a bad cut, making way for a long night for Ruiz.
