"Welterweight Johnny Bratton figured Thursday that seven pounds cost him a victory over a man he had on the verge of a knockout three times. Bratton, a former NBA welterweight champion, weighed 149 for his 10-round Chicago Stadium battle last night with Rocky Castellani, at 156, who won a split decision. Castellani, from Luzerne, Pa., posted his second win over the Chicago fighter and he thought that Bratton was a tougher foe in the second encounter. Castellani required two stitches to close a cut at the edge of his left eye, while Bratton hurt his right hand, a usual occurrence when the small-boned fighter battles a tough opponent." -United Press
- The injuries sustained by both fighters ruled out a possible July 2nd bout the IBC was planning for the winner to fight Johnny Saxton in Chicago Stadium on that date.
- Attendance - 3,147
- Gate - $7,966.23
- Purses: Both fighters received $3,491.55, which included $1,500 apiece from TV monies.
Post-fight comments
- "I had him out in the 3rd, 4th and the 7th. If we were the same weight, it would have only gone two or three rounds. I'd love to fight him again but I feel that I should stick to welters. It's hard to beat a big middleweight." -Johnny Bratton
- "Bratton is a good sharp-puncher and I thought the fight was close. I knew I had to make the 10th round mine to win, and I did." -Rocky Castellani
- "We want Graziano next...why fight another welterweight?" -Tex Sullivan, Castellani's manager
