"Johnny Famechon of Australia, Tuesday night outpointed defending champion Jose Legra, the Cuban-born Spaniard, and won the world featherweight title. A sell-out crowd of 6,000 watched the fight at London's Royal Albert Hall. Famechon slipped to the canvas several times without a count being taken. The men came to the last round with the score about even. Legra went straight to the body and forced the fight in the final round. Famechon again slipped down, but there was no count. The bout ended with the two slogging it out. When the fight ended referee George Smith had no hesitation in raising Famechon's hand. There were no knockdowns." -Associated Press

- So incensed by the decision was the Spanish Boxing Federation, that two days later they tried to request a lifetime ban on referee George Smith with the WBC.
- This was the first world title fight contested in Britain between two foreigners.
