"Johnny Persol, a fast, busy light heavyweight contender, spotted Amos (Big Train) Lincoln 21 1/2 pounds and 4 inches in height Friday night and then went out and soundly whipped the no. 3 heavyweight contender at MSG. It was strictly no-contest. Persol belted the Big Train off the track in the very first minute and kept him derailed for the entire 10 rounds. There were no knockdowns but Persol rocked his opponent with left-right combinations in the 6th and 8th rounds. Lincoln couldn't land a good punch at his ever-moving rival until the 7th when he scored with four rights late in the round." -Associated Press

- Unofficial AP scorecard - 10-0 Persol
- Unofficial UPI scorecard - 7-1-2 Persol
