Harold Carter 195 lbs lost to Johnny Summerlin 195 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Johnny Summerlin of Detroit started and finished strong to win a unanimous, fast-moving, 10-round decision here tonight over Harold Carter of Linden, N.J. Carter, losing only his second fight in 22 contests, had only two days of boxing in preparing for the fight. But he made the favored Detroiter extend himself for a good finish to get the decision. But the victory for Summerlin was not too impressive. Summerlin started strong, then wilted in the middle rounds as Carter came to life and had his opponent backing off with a series of left jabs that kept the heavier-punching Summerlin off stride." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 97-92 Summerlin
  • Carter accepted this bout on May 18th as a sub for Bob Satterfield who withdrew due to an elbow injury.
  • This bout was billed as another in a series of elimination bouts to find a successor to the heavyweight title vacated by the retired Rocky Marciano.
