Johnny Summerlin 193 lbs beat Young Jack Johnson 207 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10

"Johnny Summerlin of Detroit, a quick-punching heavyweight prospect, outboxed and out-hit California heavyweight champion Young Jack Johnson, 207, last night to win a 10-round majority decision in their non-title fracas at the Olympic Auditorium. Summerlin, 197, survived a late rally by Johnson and came on with a two-fisted attack in the final minutes to clinch the verdict. There were no knockdowns, although Summerlin shook Johnson up in the 7th, and the latter returned the compliment in the 8th." -United Press

  • After this bout Summerlin expressed a desire to fight either Rex Layne or Zora Folley. And the Olympic complied by matching him with the undefeated Folley in his very next bout.
