"Jorge Ahumada of Argentina weakened Ray Anderson of Youngstown, Ohio, with a persistent body attack and stopped him at the end of eight rounds of a scheduled 10 round light heavyweight bout Monday night at the Felt Forum. Referee Tony Perez halted the match in between the 8th and 9th rounds to save Anderson from further punishment. Ahumada knocked Anderson to the canvas with a hard right to the head with 10 seconds remaining in the 5th round. Anderson arose and managed to survive the round. Ahumada continued to batter his opponent in the 6th and 7th rounds and had Anderson backed against the ropes three times in the 8th. Anderson protested vehemently when Perez signaled it was over." -Associated Press
