"Jorge Fernandez of Argentina scored his sixth straight victory Saturday night on a TKO at 2:43 of the 6th round over Cecil Shorts of Cleveland who was battered groggy in their welterweight fight at MSG. Referee Ruby Goldstein stopped the bout because substitute Shorts was 'definitely floundering around and not in shape to continue.' Fernandez had been unable to floor his taller opponent but he had him groggy in the 2nd, 4th and 5th sessions." -United Press International
