"Jorge Lujan battered Cleo Garcia in the late rounds and stopped the outclassed challenger from Nicaragua in the 15th Sunday to retain the WBA bantamweight championship. Lujan knocked down Garcia in the 14th round and Garcia appeared ready to fall again when the bell saved him. The champion from Panama came out punching in the final round and when Garcia sat down in a neutral corner, apparently intentionally, referee Dave Pearl stopped the fight. The time was 2:29. Lujan was far ahead on all three officials' cards." -Associated Press
