The fight was competitive as Meza-Clay applied relentless pressure to the head and body while Solis took steps back to land counter punches. Midway through round 5, Solis took a step back and delivered a right uppercut that hurt Meza-Clay and sent him reeling with his back to the ropes. Solis let go a brief volley of punches punctuated by a clean right hand before referee Pat Russell stepped in. Meza-Clay was particularly upset over the stoppage, advising Russell that he was still moving his head when the stoppage occurred.
