"Jose (Toluco) Lopez of Mexico City came back from a 2nd round knockdown last night to take a unanimous decision over Bobby Gray of Stockton in a free-swinging 10 round featherweight match. Gray, 126, dropped Lopez, also 126, for a seven-count in the 2nd round and staggered the Mexican in the 3rd as he piled up an early advantage. Then Lopez opened a furious attack that never had Gray in real trouble but left him on the defensive for the rest of the night." -Associated Press
- Lopez was cut over the right eye in the 8th round.
- In this bout, softer Mexican-made gloves were used that employed foam rubber rather than American-made horse hair filled gloves.
- Gate - $5,311.25
