By round seven, Santa Cruz's punch output was dropping and he had begun to tire noticeably. He fell to the canvas as round nine ended in what could have arguably been called a knockdown, but was ruled a slip instead. Santa Cruz appeared to be exhausted upon rising and returning to his corner, but he answered the bell for round ten. However, he quickly found himself in trouble again, and as he was covering up and taking punches on the ropes, the fight was stopped at the 0:41 mark.
