"Filipino bantamweight Rey Asis defeated highly rated world bantamweight contender Jose Medel of Mexico Saturday night at the Araneta Coliseum. Asis won a split decision over the Mexican boxer, ranked by Ring Magazine as the No. 1 challenger to Eder Jofre's crown. Asis floored Medel in the 4th of their scheduled 10 round fight for a mandatory eight count. The Mexican got up and stayed up.
