  • "Jose Medel, former Mexican bantamweight king, solved the whirlwind, Kamikazi tactics of Shigeyoshi Oki early. He carried the fight to the rugged Japanese and won by a unanimous decision. The 10 round companion main event proved to be little more than a good workout for the durable veteran Medel. Oki absorbed considerable punishment from Medel's lightning left jab, and suffered from inexperience. Oki won tremendous applause for his courage and durability." -El Paso Herald-Post
