"Jose Stable of Oriente, Cuba, scored a TKO over Vince Shomo of New York at 1:06 of the 6th round of a nationally televised fight at MSG last night. Referee Joe LoScalzo stopped the bout when it appeared Shomo was unable to continue. Stable outlasted Shomo in one of the best fights to be staged in the Garden in many years. Shomo was almost helpless at the end. The 23 year old New Yorker was cut over both eyes and also was bleeding from the nose and mouth." -United Press International
