According to the March 14, 1951 New York Times, Joseph (Scotty) McLaughin had won the United States Navy's bantamweight championship during World War I, and later fought professionally. He then became a boxing instructor at the Dallas Athletic Club. He died at a Dallas TX hospital March 13.
