Handsome, 18-year-old Fontaine almost tore the block off Qunezell McCall, highly-touted young Philadelphia negro lightweight, in the first round of their preliminary bout on the Montgomery-Zivic card. He stole the show completely from a flock of better-known pugilists.

Jolting Juste seemed to be boxing on even terms with his more-experienced opponent until-wham! There was a maroon glove blur as his right fist shot out and hit the Negro. McCall hit the canvas as if yanked backward by a lariat. He rose on wobbly legs just before the count of 10, only to be met by a crushing left hook that sent him slithering face down on the canvas, where he remained, as the full count was completed at 2:59.
