Kai Kauramaki 168 lbs beat Andrzej Butowicz 162 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

“Ironman” Kai Kauramaki captured the vacant UBO Intercontinental super middleweight title with a landslide unanimous decision over late substitute Andrzej Butowicz from Poland on January 13 in Porvoo, Finland. The bout was scored 100-90, 100-90 and 100-91, but the wide scores do not reflect the fact that it was in reality a competitive and entertaining fight. Kauramaki just had a little more to give in every round than his valiant foe. Kauramaki was originally set to face Tanzanian champion Francis Cheka, but the African suffered a cut in sparring a week before the fight. He had hoped to be able to go through with his assignment, but had to face reality a few days later when the injury reopened. Enter Mr. Butowicz, who willingly took the fight on only days notice, and gave everything he had against the local hero.

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the two warriors put on a high pace from rounds one through ten, with Kauramaki using his long reach to pile up points, and the visitor attempting to counter in spurts. As the rounds passed, it became more and more clear that the “Ironman” was on his way to victory, but Butowicz, a former WBF Intercontinental champion and WBF world title challenger, never gave up trying to find a way to win.

A very happy new champion said after the fight: “I am so happy to have finally won a title as a professional, and I am proud as can be. After several failed attempts, I now have a belt, and I hope to defend it later this year”.

Kauramaki is a former challenger for the IBF International, the IBF Mediterranean, the European EU title, as well as the national Finnish crown.

Promoter of the show was Jannax Boxing. Referee was former world class professional, and now world-class official, Erkki Meronen, and UBO supervisor was chairman of the Finnish Boxing Commission, Mr. Pertti Augustin. Judges: Jere Kanninen, Arvo Kivela and Kari Meronen.
