"Spain's Miguel Velasquez outpointed a bitterly disappointed Ken Buchanan of Britain over 15 rounds here last night to win the vacant European lightweight title. At the final bell excited Veleasquez supporters invaded the ring to hoist the Spaniard onto their shoulders. Seconds later the Italian referee's verdict proved their optimism right as Buchanan leaned dejectedly against the ropes in his corner.
